President Bush’s Baghdad Visit in Perspective
Before the war, the administration assured the public and the military that we would be greeted in Iraq as liberators.
If that were true, then President Bush's trip to Iraq would have been announced long in advance of his arrival. His motorcade from the airport to downtown Baghdad would have been met by tens of thousands of Iraqis lining the streets cheering as he passed. All the members of the Iraqi Governing Council would have warmly embraced him with hugs and even kisses. His address to the Iraqi people, declaring their country as a free nation, would have been carried live by every news media and broadcast throughout the world. Instead, our president entered under the cover of darkness, in disguise, as a thief in the night. Wake up, Mr. President! Your pipe dream has turned into your worst nightmare.
