ePetitions
The level of concern expressed by voters in the Nov 2010 election over the wording
for the measure to allow current sitting county commissioners to self-extend their
own terms appears not to have been resolved. At least, there has been no
confirmation that a definite decision has been made by the commissioners to place
this before the voters with clear wording on the Nov 2011 ballot.
If you feel this is a matter voters need to have a second chance to vote on, we
would very much appreciate your time in signing our petition which will be presented
to the BoCC in August. We feel that the future of the entire Pikes Peak
Region will depend largely on the trust we feel toward our elected officials and
that this matter would be a first step in rebuilding some of the trust lost the
past two years.

Newly elected Colorado
Springs City Councilor Lisa Czeladtko has criticized a Church for feeding
the homeless at Acacia Park in in Downtown Colorado Springs.
Lisa has also threatened constituents who have opposed her, criticized
her ort parodied her.
We the undersigned
demand that Newly elected City Councilor Lisa Czeladtko improve her behavior
or resign from her newly elected position.
We, the undersigned, call on Congress to pass the Fracturing Responsibility and Awareness of Chemicals Act this year.
It's time to hold
the oil and gas production industry to the same standards as any other
industry to ensure the safe protection of America's drinking water.
Hydraulic fracturing
is a controversial drilling technique which injects millions of tons
of highly toxic chemical fluids into the ground to break apart shale
and release natural gas. Even while scientists believe these chemicals
may already be poisoning America's drinking water, the natural gas
industry has unleashed a massive 34-state drilling campaign.

On Monday, March 15, 2011, Kansas State Representative Virgil Peck said:
"It looks like to me if shooting these immigrating feral hogs works maybe we have found a [solution] to our illegal immigration problem."
It's time to hold politicians like Rep. Peck accountable for their hateful rhetoric.
The Republicans' budget includes cuts to food aid for hungry pregnant women and children, programs people need during an economic crisis. It's just wrong.
And instead of creating jobs, this budget will destroy them.
With Republicans in control of the House of Representatives, these cuts could become law. Our only hope is a public outcry strong enough to stiffen Democrats' spines and cause Republicans to back down. Can you sign the petition?
A compiled petition with your individual comment will be presented to Democratic senators and representatives.A far-reaching anti-choice bill, introduced by Republican Chris Smith and supported by 173 members of the House, includes a provision that could redefine rape and set women's rights back by decades.
Right now, federal dollars can't be used for abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the woman's life is in danger. But the Smith bill would narrow that use to "cases of 'forcible' rape but not statutory or coerced rape."
As far too many women know, bruises and broken bones do not define rape - a lack of consent does. Please sign the petition today.

Hundreds of thousands of people go into debt every year enrolling in for-profit higher education programs like DeVry and Argosy — sold on the idea that they'll graduate with skills that will lead to opportunity and a better life. In reality, many come out with a mountain of debt they can't pay back and no better prospects at employment.
Thankfully, the Obama administration is trying to rein in this industry, which preys on low-income Americans. Their plan is to stop federal financial aid from going to higher ed programs that don't actually help students get jobs and pay off their debt.
Please join us in calling on Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Congress to stand strong and protect low-income students.

Gessler promised on the campaign trail last year that he would set aside his past associations, and serve the state of Colorado without the conflicts of interest that would seem obvious given his history. But Gessler wants to remain employed part time by his old law firm while he serves as Secretary of State.
Colorado’s Secretary of State, the state’s chief elections official, moonlighting at a law firm that specializes in elections? This is completely unacceptable. Sign our petition now, demanding that Gessler immediately abandon this absurd plan. And if he can’t, Gessler should immediately resign his position as Secretary of State.
Please help by sending an e-mail to the CEO of Northwest Farm Credit Services.
This past November we came to you to ask for your support for a petition telling the Securities and Exchange Commission that we need strong regulations on conflict minerals. Over 2,300 of you signed the petition, and thanks to your action and comments, the SEC developed a strong first draft of regulations requiring companies to trace and audit their supply chains.
Through the end of January, the SEC is accepting comments for revisions to their initial draft of the regulations. They’ll use these comments to help guide the final rule-making process. You can be sure that companies will be doing their best to weaken the proposed regulations, which is why we need you to take a stand now more than ever.
Once more, we need you to call on the SEC to ensure strong regulations on conflict minerals.
Last week, former Republican Senator Alan Simpson sent an arrogant, sexist letter to the Older Women's League calling Social Security "a milk cow with 310 million tits."
Simpson co-chairs the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, which is supposed to propose ways to reduce our national debt.
Simpson should know Social Security has absolutely no impact on the national debt. Every penny goes directly from our payroll deductions into the Social Security Trust Fund, which is fully funded until 2037.
We will shortly
launch a campaign to fire Simpson and to take all Social Security cuts
"off the table." But it's election time, and we must be sure to keep the
Senate in Democratic hands, and not let extremist Tea Party Republicans
take over - including Joe Miller of Alaska, who declared Social Security
unconstitutional.
Please stand with
Senate Democrats and declare your support for protecting Social
Security.

Since the beginning of this year, clergy and farm worker supporters have been expressing concern to the Kroger grocery chain (which includes Ralphs, Food for Less, Fred Meyer, QFC, Frys, Baker's, City Market, Dillions, Foods Co, Gerbes, Hilander, JayC Stores, King Soopers, Owen's Market, Scotts Food & Pharmacy, Smiths Food & Drug, Smith's Marketplace, Turkey Hill, and more) over widespread accounts of worker abuse at Giumarra Vineyards. Giumarra supplies Kroger with table grapes and other fruits and vegetables under their Nature's Partner label. Concerned consumers nationwide have sent letters, e-mails and even met with company representatives in order to urge Kroger to hold Giumarra accountable. Kroger has failed to respond. Take a moment to let this retail giant know that they have a responsibility to uphold the standards they have set for their vendors.
Elected leaders should listen to their constituents. That's how it's supposed to work.
And voters have spoken. A recent poll by SurveyUSA about corporate influence over our democracy shows that voters want their leaders to stand up on this critical issue. Here's what it found:
An overwhelming 73% of voters, including
67% of Republicans and 71% of independents, are more likely to support
a candidate for Congress who works to reduce the influence of corporate
lobbyists in Washington.
And almost two out of three voters (60%)
disagree with the Supreme Court's decision in the Citizens United case.
As one of over 475,000 people who have endorsed the Fight Washington Corruption pledge—which calls on Congress to deal with exactly these issues—that may not surprise you.
But what may surprise you is that Sen. Bennet and Rep. Lamborn still have not signed this pledge.
The economy is in shambles, unemployment is at record levels and home foreclosures are soaring. Congress can't get it together to act on these issues. But there's growing momentum in Washington to—wait for it—slash Social Security?
Believe it. Republicans are campaigning on benefit cuts. Conservative Democrats like Steny Hoyer are echoing their talking points.
Everyone's counting on the
Deficit Commission to do the dirty work. The commission is stacked
with conservatives who've embraced cutting Social Security, and both
houses of congress promised to fast-track a vote on its recommendations.
That means that even though
no jobs bill can pass congress right now, Social Security cuts might.
To stop the cuts, we need to send a crystal-clear message to members of Congress: Americans reject benefit cuts, and we expect them to do the same. Can you sign our promise to oppose cuts to Social Security? We'll use your signature to pressure them to sign a pledge protecting Social Security while they're home in Colorado for recess. But we need a strong response to make our point. Click below to add your name:

TO SUPPORT THE FRAC ACT
We need your help to pass the FRAC Act - twin
bills in the Senate (S 1215) and House (HR 2766) that remove
the exemption to the Safe Drinking Water Act for fracking and
call for the disclosure and monitoring of the chemicals used
in the process. Contacting your elected officials is critical to
its passage.
Hydraulic fracturing for natural gas is one of the country's biggest environmental and public health challenges in history. The 2005 Energy Bill exempted a controversial drilling technique known as hydraulic fracturing from the Safe Drinking Water Act, which allowed the natural gas industry to unleash a massive 34-State drilling campaign.
