Dear Supervisor Thompson,
I urge you to select Alternative 3 of the Lewis and Clark National Forest travel
plan, which would protect wildlife habitat and maintain recreational opportunities
along Montana's Rocky Mountain Front.
The Front includes some of the richest wildlife habitat in the country, and is
the last refuge for species such as wolves and grizzly bears that have nowhere
else to go. These species are particularly sensitive to the impacts of mounting
off-road vehicle use. Further, this magnificent landscape provides unique opportunities
for those seeking tranquility as a respite from the noise and bustle of everyday
life.
We appreciate the efforts of the Forest Service to save the Rocky Mountain Front
from oil and gas development, but the protection will not be complete unless the
problems of motorized vehicle use are addressed -- before it is too late. Please
adopt Alternative 3 of the Lewis and Clark National Forest travel plan and ensure
that future generations will be able to experience the natural beauty of these
wildlands.
Sincerely,
