Low-Power
FM Radio PetitionBig Broadcasters have blocked local community
voices for long enough! It's time to trash their anti-competitive agenda and
reclaim radio!
The Local Community Radio Act ends any further delay in low-power FM radio implementation.
LPFM stations would increase media diversity and give schools, churches and
other civic organizations a greater voice on the airwaves and in their communities.

of Petition:
Dear (name):
I call on you to co-sponsor/support the Local Community Radio Act, recently
introduced by Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Patrick
Leahy (D-Vt.).
In 2000, shortly after the FCC began allowing nonprofit groups to broadcast
on the FM band, Congress imposed unnecessary rules requiring low-power community
radio stations to find available frequencies far away from any full-power broadcaster.
Both the FCC itself and an independent study by the Mitre Group have concluded
that allowing more low-power FM licenses will “do no harm” to other
broadcasters. The current low- power FM rules go beyond what is necessary to
protect full power stations from interference, and instead protect them from
healthy competition.
The Local Community Radio Act directly responds to recommendations by the FCC,
and ends any further delay in low-power FM radio implementation. Please support
this bill. Expansion of low-power FM would increase media diversity and give
schools, churches and other civic organizations a greater voice on the airwaves
and in their communities.
