Write a letter to the Steamboat Springs City Council

The city of Steamboat Springs Smoke-free Ordinance, which becomes
effective Friday, July 1, is already being challenged!
The SmokeFree Steamboat Coalition has launched an email campaign to garner further support forthis new ordinance which protects residents, workers and visitors from
secondhand smoke's harmful health effects in indoor and many outdoor
public places and work places.

Your help with our email campaign is much appreciated. All emails
should be directed to smokefree@steamboatsprings.net. These emails will
be collected and printed to make a packet for city council members. All
emails should be sent no later than 7/15/05.

Emails should be brief and positive.

TALKING POINTS.
1. Thank Honorable Steamboat Springs City Council members for their
leadership in enacting strong secondhand smoke legislation for the City
of Steamboat Springs.
2. Mention that you will definitely visit or return visit to Steamboat
Springs now that the city is smoke-free.
3. Encourage council members to maintain the integrity of the ordinance as
written and give it a chance to work.
4. Let them know that you are pleased that the ordinance provides public
health and worker health protection from the harmful effects of secondhand
smoke in both indoor and outdoor public places and work places.
5. Local SHS legislation sends a healthy community message and is,
therefore, one of the most effective ways to deter the initiation of
youth tobacco use and support youth and adult cessation.
6. Reiterate that you hope that they will stand strong on this important
public health issue and resist any attempts to weaken the ordinance.
