Colorado celebrates Mother Earth Day

Colorado Springs-May 5

The Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission will hold it's 5th annual "Mothering Mother Earth Day" in Acacia Park on Saturday, May 7th, from 11AM until 3PM.

Mothering Mother earth is a celebration of mothers and the greatest mother of all--Mother Earth.

"We are celebrating, through demonstrations of sustainable living, the ability to provide a healthy, satisfying, and just life for all people on earth now and for future generations", said Robin Shankman, Sustainability Living Director of the Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission.

"
Finding balance and harmony with nature along with economic viability, is a prerequisite for sustaining healthy life on earth in perpetuity."

Demonstrations of sustainable living techniques and products will start at 11AM and include a biodiesel car, solar ovens, straw bale building, permaculture, recycling, wind power, an electric trike, massage therapists, and much much more.

Sustainable Living Director, Robin Shankman said, "Development should improve the quality of people's lives, but within the carrying capacity of the earth's life support system."

The winners of the month long poetry contest will be announced at 1:15 PM, massages will be provided throughout the day, and fun activities for the kids will include full body drawing, planting flowers for Mother's Day, and a giant globe ball from Earth Seeds.
