Support for nomination of Comanche National
Grasslands and Santa Fe Trail
Santa Fe Trail Scenic and Historic Byway requests your support for the
nomination of Comanche National Grassland as one of Colorado's most
endangered places. Deadline for letters of support is Friday August 11,
2006.
Sites Included in the nomination will be Timpas Picnic Area, Iron
Springs, Sierra Vista Overlook, Picketwire Canyonlands Dinosaur
Tracksite and Rourke Ranch, all of which are currently public lands and
US Forest Service Property. These sites of attraction make up the
majority of the sites of interest on what is known as the Mountain
Branch of the Santa Fe Trail and our National Scenic Byway. Please see
our website for background information on the sites being nominated at:

A letter of support for preserving this most important National Treasure
would be greatly appreciated from you. Please let me know if you have
questions about the nomination and feel free to call me at 719-846-2396
or email me and I will be happy to address any of your concerns. I beg
the Mayors and county commissioners of our region to please respond to
this most important application and help us save America's Treasures.
This may be of great assistance to our region in halting the army
acquisition of this land. A chance of saving our regions history is
worth your immediate attention and is most necessary if we are to
continue to work towards becoming a tourist destination of National
importance. Our region is economically challenged and this takeover
promises no benefit to our counties or communities either ethically or
financially.
